Thailand Firmly Denies Rumors Spreading on Chinese Social Platforms Regarding Simple Acquisition of Thai Citizenship

Thailand's government has set the record straight following false rumors about obtaining Thai citizenship through 'white cards' circulating on Chinese social media.

These myths communicated easy citizenship through a seemingly simple process. However, authorities are categorical - this information is pure bunkum!

Reports depicting the 'white card' as a quick-fix miracle ticket that grants automatic Thai citizenship with added perks like property ownership and job security are a definite no-go zone.

Traisulee Traisoranakul, the Secretary to the Minister of Interior and the Ministry spokesperson, ascertained that these claims lack merit.

She made it clear that the Ministry, through the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA), follows stringent procedures for authorizing registration rights for foreign nationals. All these aspiring Thais are expected to comply with the set protocols.

The 'white card' is nothing more than a document issued for basic identification purposes, helping people verify their identity when needed.

It can be a stepping stone to a new personal status and nationality under stipulated conditions, but it's certainly far from an automatic ticket!

According to Traisulee, for a 'white card' holder to secure Thai nationality, they must either have been born in Thailand with valid records or be a foreigner who has lived in Thailand for at least five years and possesses a certificate of residency.

Elaborating further, she added that applications for Thai nationality must strictly comply with all legal standards and conditions.

Following these myth-busting statements, the public has been cautioned to exercise skepticism when encountering information on social media. For any official queries, individuals can contact the Call Centre at 1548 or the Nationality Section of DOPA's Bureau of Registration Administration at 0-2791-7317-20.

The Facts:

  1. Obtaining Thai nationality is not as simple as a 'white card' suggests. It requires adherence to specific legal restrictions.
  2. The 'white card' is a basic identification document that can be part of the broader process of establishing a legal presence in Thailand.
  3. To apply for Thai nationality, non-citizens must either be born in Thailand or have been foreign residents of more than five years with a certificate of residency.
  4. All applications for Thai nationality must strictly comply with legal standards and conditions set by DOPA.
  5. For any clarification or information, individuals can reach out to the Ministry's Call Centre or the Nationality Section of DOPA.
  6. Despite misleading rumors about 'white cards,' Thailand's policy-and-legislation regarding tourism and citizenship involves stringent procedures set by the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA), as clarified by Traisulee Traisoranakul, the Ministry spokesperson.
  7. A 'white card' is merely a basic identification document in Thailand that can facilitate a person's presence in the country, but it does not offer an easy route to Thai citizenship, as general-news reports suggesting otherwise are misguided.
