Thai military discover additional landmine locations, suggesting Cambodian forces are aiming to harm soldiers.

Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree, spokesman for the Royal Thai Army, has expressed concern over the continued use of landmines along the Thai-Cambodian border, following the discovery of three such sites. On September 16, 2025, the Second Army Area reported the discovery of eight PMN-2 anti-personnel landmines in an active state near Chong Don Au, Si Sa Ket Province, near Chana Suek Operating Base.

The survey, conducted by soldiers from the 132nd Infantry Regiment and officials from the Thailand Mine Action Centre (TMAC), revealed that the landmines were found in close proximity to the Thai-Cambodian border. This marks the third discovery of landmines along this contentious border.

Winthai stated that the discovery of these landmines indicates that Cambodia continues to use weapons against Thai forces, a concerning action given that Thai forces have been the sole direct victims of these landmine attacks. He further claimed that this action violates the ceasefire agreement between the two nations.

The commander of the Cambodian forces involved in the landmine attack against Thai troops on September 16, 2025, has not been identified in the survey results. However, the evidence found at the landmine sites suggests that Cambodian forces have used weapons against Thai soldiers.

Winthai also stated that Cambodia's actions highlight a lack of sincerity in resolving the border issue and that the discovery of these landmines underscores the need for both nations to work towards a peaceful resolution.

The mines were safely removed and are awaiting controlled destruction. The discovery and removal of these landmines serve as a reminder of the ongoing tension along the Thai-Cambodian border and the need for both nations to prioritise diplomacy and dialogue in resolving their disputes.
