Thai Film Festival Returns After 14 Years With 'Love On Trial' & 'Kinki'

A Thai film festival is set to showcase an intriguing drama, 'Love On Trial', alongside a mystery horror film, 'Kinki'. The Bangkok International Film Festival (BKKIFF) returns after a 14-year hiatus, bringing over 200 films to screens from September 27 to October 15.

The festival's Special Presentation section will feature 'Love On Trial', a J-pop idol drama that made its debut at Cannes. The film centres around an idol who breaches a 'no love' clause in her contract, sparking a trial that explores the complexities of love and fame.

Meanwhile, 'Kinki', a Japanese mystery horror film based on a 2023 web novel, will also be screening. The film's rights have been acquired by a local Thai distributor, marking its entry into the Thai market.

GDH, a prominent Thai film distributor, has secured the local rights for both films. 'Love On Trial' is slated for release in Thai theaters in the first half of 2026, while 'Kinki' will hit screens in the fourth quarter of 2023. GDH's recent track record includes the release of eight international movies, six of which were direct acquisitions.

The Bangkok International Film Festival's comeback promises a diverse range of films, with 'Love On Trial' and 'Kinki' adding an international touch. Movie enthusiasts can look forward to these Japanese cinematic offerings, with 'Kinki' arriving later this year and 'Love On Trial' in early 2026.
