Thackeray Family's Marathi People Advocacy Expands, Now Includes Raj, According to Uddhav

In the political landscape of Maharashtra, the potential alliance between the Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), under the leadership of his cousin Raj Thackeray, has become a subject of intense speculation. This comes after the Thackeray cousins shared the stage for the first time in nearly 20 years at a rally on July 5, 2025, marking a significant moment in the political sphere[1][2].

While the MNS leadership, particularly Raj Thackeray, has not yet committed to a formal agreement, multiple rounds of meetings have been held between senior leaders of both parties to discuss a potential coalition. These discussions have primarily focused on seat-sharing and managing overlapping electoral strongholds in Mumbai[1].

Uddhav Thackeray has been more proactive in seeking a partnership, emphasising his struggle starting from his grandfather Prabodhankar Thackeray, continuing with Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, and now being joined by Aditya Thackeray and Raj Thackeray. He has also stated that the Thackeray family's struggle has been for the welfare of society, not for selfish means[2].

However, the seat-sharing issue remains a contentious point, with the Shiv Sena (UBT) pushing for distribution based on the 2017 BMC results, while the MNS believes the political landscape has significantly changed since the split of Shiv Sena, and all 227 seats should be up for negotiation[1].

The possibility of a Thackeray cousins’ alliance has sparked reactions from other parties. Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has allied with the Republican Sena to consolidate Marathi and Dalit votes, aiming to counter any combined strength of MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT)[3]. The BJP, Congress, and other parties are also ramping up preparations for the municipal elections, indicating that any formal alliance announcement could have ripple effects across Mumbai’s political spectrum[3].

Despite the ongoing negotiations, no concrete agreement on seat-sharing or coalition principles has been officially announced[1]. Raj Thackeray has denied making any public commitment to such an alliance and emphasised that it is not the current policy of MNS[2]. Until MNS unambiguously endorses an alliance and both parties resolve their differences over seat distribution, the speculation remains just that—speculation. The next major development will likely be communicated officially, possibly closer to the BMC election schedules.

  1. The recent rally shared by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray has sparked debate about a potential alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), reigniting discussions about war-and-conflicts and policy-and-legislation in the political sphere.
  2. The negotiations between the senior leaders of both parties revolve around seat-sharing and managing overlapping electoral strongholds, particularly in Mumbai, aligning with the broader context of general-news and crime-and-justice.
  3. Despite Uddhav Thackeray's proactive approach and emphasis on the Thackeray family's historical commitment to societal welfare, the seat-sharing issue remains contentious, reflecting the dynamics of politics and sports-betting in modern society.
  4. The potential alliance's impact is not limited to the local political landscape, as other parties are busily preparing for the municipal elections, suggesting that car-accidents, fires, sports (such as football), European leagues, and premier-league could all potentially be affected by the ripple effects.
  5. However, Raj Thackeray has denied making any public commitment, emphasizing that MNS's current policy does not include an alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT). This ambiguity only fuels speculation within general-news and sports-betting circles.
  6. As no official agreement has been announced yet, the next major development could come closer to the BMC election schedules, further fanning the flames of general-news and politics, with potential implications for crime-and-justice and sports across Mumbai.
