Texas' well-known amusement park plans to permanently shut down operations.

In the heart of Texas, Seguin's cherished ZDT's Amusement Park will close its gates for good in August 2025, marking the end of an era for local thrill seekers and families.

The park, named after the Donhauser family's children's initials and considered a dream project, opened its doors in the spring of 2007. Over the past 18 years, it has provided countless smiles, thrills, and unforgettable memories to visitors.

However, rising operational costs, declining attendance, and strong local competition from larger theme parks in nearby San Antonio, such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld San Antonio, have taken their toll on the family-owned business. Sarah Donhauser, co-owner of ZDT's, stated that attendance has been dwindling in recent years, and the time has come to close the park.

The park's unique attractions, including roller coasters, a splash zone, go-karts, and more, have made it a popular attraction. Yet, as a family-owned business, ZDT's did not have the resources to withstand lost business like entertainment giants Six Flags and Disney.

Local residents have expressed a mix of emotions about the park’s closure. Many have shown nostalgia and sadness during the park’s final days, reminiscing about memories and community events held there. The closure marks the end of a distinctive recreational spot in Seguin, with locals appreciating its familiness and charm, even as they acknowledge the challenges it faced.

In a bid to preserve a part of the park’s legacy, the ZDT's team has made park equipment and buildings available for sale or lease. Coasters, such as the Switchback, may go up for sale after the park's closure in August 2025.

Sarah Donhauser expressed optimism about ZDT's ability to bounce back when the park reopened in June 2020. However, post-COVID-19, attendance fell significantly, and it became apparent that they needed to close the park at the end of the summer of 2025.

Seguin-area thrill seekers can find alternative adventure on a unique Southern coaster about 40 minutes from ZDT's. As the final chapter of ZDT's Amusement Park unfolds, the community will remember the park fondly, cherishing the memories created there.
