Texas Voter Guide: ID, Procedures, and November 4 Ballot

On November 4, 2025, Texas voters will head to the polls to decide on 17 state constitutional amendments, along with local leadership and measures. Here's what voters need to know about identification, voting procedures, and what's on the ballot.

Voters must present an acceptable form of photo ID at the polls. Valid options include a Texas Driver License, Texas Election Identification Certificate, Texas Personal Identification Card, Texas Handgun License, U.S. Military ID, U.S. Citizenship Certificate, and U.S. Passport. If a voter lacks an acceptable ID and cannot reasonably obtain one, they can present a supporting form of ID such as a government document, utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or certified domestic birth certificate.

For in-person voting, only peace officers can carry a handgun into a polling place. The photo ID must be current or expired for no more than 4 years for voters aged 18 to 69, but there's no expiration limit for voters aged 70 and older. Voters can bring notes or a sample ballot, but phone use is prohibited within polling locations. Additionally, voters cannot wear clothing or items related to any candidate, measure, or political party within 100 feet of a polling station. Children under 18 can accompany their parents while voting.

In many Texas counties, voters can vote at any polling location in their county of registration. However, some counties may require voting at specific locations based on the precinct.

On November 4, 2025, Texas voters will cast their ballots on 17 state constitutional amendments, local leadership, and measures. By familiarizing themselves with the voting procedures and acceptable forms of ID, voters can ensure a smooth and informed election process.
