Texas resident accused of issuing violent threats towards Zohran Mamdani

In a shocking turn of events, a Texas man named Jeremy Fistel has been charged with making terroristic threats against New York State Assembly member and mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani.

According to reports, Fistel allegedly began making these threats in late June. On June 11, he left a voicemail saying that Mamdani should go back to Uganda and threatening violence against him and his family. The threats continued throughout July, with Fistel allegedly leaving another voicemail on June 18, stating that Mamdani was not welcome in New York or America and suggesting that he should watch his back until he leaves America.

On July 23, Fistel allegedly left a more sinister voicemail message containing more threats and expressing hope for Mamdani's death and the deaths of his family, as well as using derogatory language. In another written message submitted on July 8 through Mamdani's assembly member website, Fistel allegedly threatened to shoot Mamdani in the head, watch his family, and suggested that he and his relatives deserve to die.

Fistel was arrested earlier this month in Plano, Texas, and pleaded not guilty to a 22-count indictment. He was released on bail and ordered to return to court on Nov. 19.

The threats prompted an increase in Mamdani's security, and his campaign has expressed gratitude for the security measures in place and reassured the community that they are safe. They have also stated that they will not be commenting further on the details of the case.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated that there is no room for hate or bigotry in political discourse. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams commented that there is an irony in the situation, as Mamdani has spent his life criticizing the NYPD. Mamdani is challenging Adams in the upcoming mayoral election.

It is important to note that Fistel is an individual known for being a defendant in a legal case, and specific personal details or current residence are not publicly available.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respectful and civil political discourse. We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
