Texas' former favorite amusement park announces permanent closure.
ZDT's Amusement Park Bids Farewell After Nearly Two Decades
After 18 years of providing smiles, thrills, and unforgettable memories, ZDT's Amusement Park in Seguin, Texas, will close its gates permanently on August 17, 2025. The family-owned business, located near one of Texas' most intriguing sights and the iconic Hill Country destination of San Antonio, has been a beloved community fixture since its opening in the spring of 2007.
The decision to close was driven by economic factors, with declining visitor numbers and increasing expenses making continuation unsustainable. Sarah Donhauser, co-owner of ZDT's, shared that it became apparent that they needed to close at the end of the summer.
The park had struggled during COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, and despite optimism, attendance never returned to sustainable levels after the park reopened. This, coupled with the evolving business climate for amusement parks and the cost pressures associated with maintaining attractions and infrastructure over time, ultimately led to the park's closure.
ZDT's included a variety of attractions, such as roller coasters, a splash zone, go-karts, and more, catering to thrill-seekers and families alike. The fate of popular park coasters like the Switchback is uncertain after ZDT's closure, and it's possible that individual rides may simply go up for sale.
The news of the park's closure was shared on the ZDT's Amusement Park website and sparked a wave of sadness among the community. Comments on the park's social media posts show that people in and around Seguin will miss ZDT's, with @ch.p1312_ describing it as a "magical experience" and something special.
As a family-owned business, ZDT's did not have the resources to withstand lost business like entertainment giants Six Flags and Disney. However, part of the park’s legacy is continuing through a new indoor family entertainment venue called Jungle Jam Extreme, highlighting a transition from outdoor amusement rides to indoor play experiences in the vacated space.
The Donhauser family shares similar sentiments about ZDT's being a dream project, and Sarah Donhauser expressed her gratitude for the memories created over the years. As the park prepares for its final day of operation, it leaves behind a rich history and a void that will be hard to fill in the hearts of its loyal fans.
