Texas authorities apprehend chase of jet ski operator following fatal collision with a kayaker, aged 18. Law enforcement continues investigation.
In a tragic turn of events, an 18-year-old girl identified as Ava Moore lost her life while kayaking on Grapevine Lake in Texas over Memorial Day weekend. The incident happened on Sunday evening when a jet ski, reportedly driven by Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, struck Moore. The driver and another passenger on the jet ski, Maikel Coello Perozo, subsequently fled the scene.
Gonzalez Gonzalez was operating the watercraft at an unusually high speed, according to authorities. The collision occurred near Grapevine Lake, a reservoir located approximately 20 miles northwest of Dallas and northeast of Fort Worth in northern Texas.
The passenger on the jet ski remained at the scene to be interviewed by first responders, while the driver and the passenger left the area in a vehicle, causing another vehicular collision during their escape.
Police are investigating the hit-and-run incident in connection with the automotive collision, while Texas Game Wardens are leading the investigation into Moore's death on the lake. The suspects, Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez and Maikel Coello Perozo, were arrested on Tuesday. Gonzalez Gonzalez has been charged with felony manslaughter, while Perozo faces misdemeanor charges for collision involving damage to a vehicle and hindering apprehension.
