Houston Texans Sign Veteran Safety Jalen Mills
The Houston Texans have bolstered their defensive backfield with the signing of free-agent safety Jalen Mills. The 31-year-old Mills, who boasts a wealth of NFL experience, has spent the past nine seasons in the league.
Throughout his career, Mills has played in around 115 games (91 starts) with the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and now the Houston Texans. He has racked up approximately 450 total tackles, 8 interceptions, 59 passes defended, 3 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hits, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.
Mills' most notable achievement came in 2017 when he was a key part of the Philadelphia Eagles' defense that won Super Bowl LII. The Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in that match, making Mills a Super Bowl champion.
In the 2023 season with the New England Patriots, Mills recorded 45 tackles and 1 pass defended in 17 games. His previous season with the New York Jets saw him record 44 tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble in nine games (eight starts).
The addition of Mills to the Texans comes following the injury sustained by C.J. Gardner-Johnson and the arrest of Jimmie Ward. Gardner-Johnson suffered a right leg injury in practice on Thursday, while Ward was arrested for violating conditions of his release in a separate legal matter.
