Hannover 96's Striker Struggles - Teuchert's Injury Hinders Return to Action

Well, it was a letdown, but there was still hope until now. But now, it's all but certain – Cedric Teuchert (26) won't don the Hannover 96 jersey this season.

Stefan Leitl (46), the coach, summed it up: "Given the current state of affairs, it doesn't make sense for him to play this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for his return at the start of training."

Teuchert's Enigmatic Setback Holds Him Back Until the Second Half of the Season

The mystery shrouding Teuchert's thigh problems surfaced following Hoffenheim's game on October 30. Since then, he's missed contests against Braunschweig, St. Pauli, Hertha, Paderborn, Karlsruhe (December 8), and Kiel (December 16).

Leitl himself revealed, "I don't have him penciled in for the Kiel match either." It's reportedly not a structural injury, but his condition doesn't allow him to give his all on the field. Leitl added, "He's putting in individual, focused training sessions in the areas where he can participate." Changing directions, though, puts his body through unnecessary pain.

This past week, Teuchert's been working out with fitness coach Markus Böker and athletics trainer Felix Sunkel, running laps and hitting the gym.

Teuchert Still Leads Hannover 96 in Goals, Despite Long Layoff

Despite being sidelined, the striker continues to lead Hannover 96 with eight goals, six of which came from penalties. Havard Nielsen is the next best scoring Red with five goals.

The lack of scoring options is especially frustrating for Hannover 96 since Louis Schaub (red card suspension) will also miss the two ending games this year. With Nielsen, Nicolo Tresoldi, and Andreas Voglsammer, Leitl has only three forward options.

Preparation for the Second Half Begins on January 2

After the Kiel game, Leitl will gather his players at the training ground for their final session before the break. Then the holiday season kicks in. Preparations for the second half of the season will commence on January 2 with a departure for a Spanish training camp (until January 10).

By then, Teuchert should be ready to return to action. The serene Christmas break with his family may work some restorative magic for him.

For the first time, the Teucherts are celebrating as a family of four. Lisa, Teuchert’s wife, delivered baby Nola Lien at the end of October. Neo Levi, their elder son, celebrated his third birthday on November 28. As a father of two, Teuchert is yet to take the field for Hannover 96.
