Testimony of Brandon Miller in Homicide Case

Fresh Take:

Brandon Miller, the NBA's Charlotte Hornets guard, bravely revealed in court yesterday the horrifying near-death experience he faced during a January 15, 2023 shooting in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Unfortunately, Jamea Harris, a passenger in Miller's car, lost her life in the same incident.

Michael Lynn Davis, accused of murder, is on trial for Harris's death. Davis is also joined by former NBA player Darius Miles, who is charged with "aiding and abetting" Davis by providing the lethal weapon. Harris was just 23 years old.

This was the first time Miller publicly discussed the tragic incident, speaking before a packed courtroom for nearly 90 minutes. Six months prior to his heart-wrenching testimony, Miller was chosen with the second overall pick by the Hornets in the 2023 NBA Draft.

At the time of the incident, Miller was playing for Alabama.

Clues From Dashcam Footage

Miller disclosed that Miles had texted him, asking to collect his gun from The Strip. Joining Miller was former basketball manager Cooper Lee. When they stopped to hand over the gun, Miles and Davis approached to collect it. Davis inquired if the gun was loaded, to which Miles responded, "You know it is."

The shocking scene unfolded as Davis fired two bullets, one striking Harris below the lip and another narrowly missing Miller. "Oh my God, Oh my God," echoed from the car. Miller sped away from the scene, exclaiming, "We almost just got killed... What the f*** just happened?!"

Miller was not yet aware that Harris had been fatally wounded.

Miller also admitted that he had been acquainted with Davis "ever since I got to Bama" and was introduced to him by Miles. Despite facing life in prison, Davis will not receive the death penalty.
