Testifying in a murder trial, the mother of an 8-year-old boy who was killed in Atlanta in 2020 shares her grief and emotional testimony.

Charmaine Turner, the mother of Secoriea Turner, an 8-year-old child who was shot and killed in Atlanta, Ga. in 2020, testified on Thursday. Secoriea's tragic death occurred in an area that was taken over by armed protestors near the burned-down Wendy's on University Avenue.

According to police claims, armed protestors fired at Turner's car, resulting in Secoriea's death. Julian Conley, a man now on trial, is accused of firing the fatal shot that killed Secoriea.

Turner, her daughter, and her mother's boyfriend, Omar Ivory, were in the car when it was fired upon. Turner described her daughter as outspoken, silly, and loving family time. On the fateful night, Turner testified that her daughter said "Mom" after being shot, and she started to grab her. Turner stated that she was trying to unbuckle her daughter's seatbelt after the shots were fired.

Omar Ivory testified that he tried to speed away as quickly as possible after the shooting. Defense attorneys claim the evidence will show that Conley was not the shooter.

The trial of Julian Conley is five years after Secoriea's death. The second man arrested in connection with Secoriea Turner's death was Timothy McGhee; as of the latest available information, his trial status is not publicly detailed.

The trial continues with testimony from Charmaine Turner and Omar Ivory, providing details of the night her daughter was shot and killed. Prosecutors argue that multiple bullets were fired into a car that drove past an armed checkpoint on the night of Secoriea's death. The defense, however, is yet to present its case.

The trial is a significant step towards seeking justice for Secoriea Turner's family and the Atlanta community. The outcome of the trial will not only affect the accused but also serve as a reminder of the need for peace and safety in such situations.
