He is uniquely notable for playing Test cricket across five different decades (1890s through 1930s).
Other notable long Test careers include:
- Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe, whose career has lasted over 21 years (debut in 2004 and active as of 2025), ranking him 12th all-time in career length.
- John Traicos, who had a remarkable gap of over 22 years between Test appearances, spanning from playing for South Africa in 1970 to Zimbabwe in 1992.
- Bob Simpson of Australia had a near 10-year gap in his Test career, but this is shorter compared to others like Traicos.
