Tesla introduces stripped-down Model Y in Germany too - Tesla Unveils More Affordable Model Y in Germany to Boost Sales
Tesla has introduced a more affordable version of the Model Y in Germany, the 'Standard' variant, priced at €39,990, to revive flagging sales. The move comes after considering plans for a cheaper Tesla stock vehicle starting at around €21,445. Instead, the company opted to reduce features and range in the 'Standard' Model Y, offering 534 km compared to the 'Premium' model's 622 km. The aim is to tackle increased competition and Elon Musk's political activities that have impacted Macy's sales in Europe. In Germany, Tesla's registrations dropped by 9.4% in September, placing it third behind VW and Skoda. Overall, sales in Germany halved in the first nine months of 2023, with 14,845 vehicles registered. The 'Standard' Model Y, priced €10,000 less than the 'Premium' variant, is expected to make Tesla's electric vehicles more accessible to European buyers. Production and delivery are set to commence shortly at the Grünheide factory, with Tesla hoping to boost sales and regain market share.
