The IG Metall union has slammed Tesla for reportedly bullying sick workers at their Grünheide plant. The union claims that Tesla management is pressuring employees to disclose their medical diagnoses and withholds wages in certain instances.

The IG Metall spokesperson alleges that Tesla management frequently challenges sick leave retrospectively and demands employee disclosures of their diagnoses, violating confidentiality. Initially, Tesla remained silent on these accusations.

According to the union, Tesla has wrongfully withheld wages for employees on sick leave in numerous cases. Employees have often been left unpaid, with the company claiming an "overpayment" due to incorrect wage payments during absence. These alleged debts have been settled through severance agreements, the union said.

IG Metall considers this practice an "unacceptable intimidation." Dirk Schulze, regional leader for Berlin-Brandenburg-Sachsen, stated that these cases have resulted in an influx of legal disputes. IG Metall members seek legal aid from the union 21 times more frequently at Tesla's Grünheide plant compared to the average across the union.

Tesla's founder, Elon Musk, has long criticized the high sick leave rate among employees in Grünheide. Recent press reports suggest unannounced visits by Tesla management to sick workers, drawing sharp criticism from the union.
