Terrorists emerge from subterranean passageway, yielding their arms
In a significant development, troops from the IDF's Givati Brigade, under the 162nd Division, have eliminated a Hamas terror cell hiding in a two-kilometer-long tunnel in Beit Hanoun, Gaza. The tunnel, located about five kilometers from the Ashkelon-Sderot railway line, was part of a broader Hamas network used for attacks, including the October 7, 2023 massacre.
The tunnel, which had living quarters, contained AK-47 rifles, explosive devices, and supplies such as food, water, and hygiene products. Additionally, a nearby weapons cache was discovered, containing tactical vests, magazines, fragmentation grenades, and firearms. The terrorists, after surrendering, disclosed information about this cache.
The operation forms part of the IDF’s ongoing campaign called Operation Gideon’s Chariots, aimed at dismantling Hamas’s underground infrastructure. The IDF is currently inspecting the tunnel to assess its structure and use while gathering intelligence from captured terrorists to support further operations in Gaza.
Forces under the Southern Command continue to locate and destroy terror infrastructure. They are also gathering critical intelligence to support ongoing operations. The confiscated weapons are currently being examined.
The terrorists involved in this operation have been transferred for interrogation by security forces. This discovery underscores the IDF’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Israeli civilians, and its relentless pursuit of dismantling terror infrastructure in the region.
