Israeli Leader and Fijian Prime Minister Discuss Tensions and Diplomatic Milestones

In a significant meeting held in Jerusalem, President Isaac Herzog met with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka of Fiji on Thursday. The discussion, which included various matters, was marked by a focus on the recent attack at the Allenby Crossing, a location outside of Israel.

The tragic event, which claimed the lives of ORAN HERSCHKO, a 20-year-old liaison officer from Tel Mond, and JIZCHAK HAROSH, a 68-year-old reservist in the civil administration from Jerusalem, was perpetrated by terrorists, according to President Herzog. The attack was intended to disrupt relations between Israel and Jordan.

President Herzog expressed his concern over the attack and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those affected. He also expressed hope for improved relations and the safe return of hostages following the incident.

The meeting between President Herzog and Prime Minister Rabuka took on added significance as it coincided with the opening of Fiji's embassy in Jerusalem, an event that was celebrated the previous day. President Herzog considered this opening as a significant step and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Rabuka for his commitment.

Several senior ministers in Sitiveni Rabuka's government were also present during the meeting. The discussion about the Allenby Crossing attack was a poignant reminder of the complexities and challenges faced in maintaining peace and fostering diplomatic relations.

Despite the sobering topic, the meeting also highlighted the potential for stronger ties between Israel and Fiji. President Herzog expressed his hope that the opening of the Fijian embassy would pave the way for further cooperation and understanding between the two nations.
