Unyielding Pressure on Netanyahu: Hamas Releases Video of Hostages

Terrorist group Hamas publicly reveals footage of two captives

In a chilling propaganda video, Hamas showcases two Israeli hostages, ratcheting up the pressure on the Netanyahu government. The Israeli Prime Minister believes that 21 hostages are still clinging to life.

Hamas has published a three-minute video featuring Elkana Bohbot, a 36-year-old captive, and Josef-Haim Ohana, a 24-year-old hostage, both abducted by terrorists from the Nova music festival in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. The video, released by Hamas's military wing, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, was distributed by Israeli media after it was presented by the hostage forum. The footage's recording date remains undisclosed.

In the video, Bohbot appears weak and enfeebled, while Ohana sits cross-legged and addresses the camera in Hebrew. He reports that his companion is in a dire physical and psychological state. Then, Ohana demands that Israel bring an end to the Gaza conflict and secure the release of the remaining hostages.

Demonstrations erupted anew in Tel Aviv in the evening, appealing for the hostages' release and an end to the Gaza Strip war. Placards carried slogans echoing the same sentiments. Israel accuses Hamas of manipulating the hostages for propaganda purposes through the recordings.

Wadephul Meets with Netanyahu

On October 7, 2023, Hamas and its associated terrorists launched a massive assault on Israel, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1200 people and the kidnapping of 251 hostages. As of April 16, 2024, 58 hostages continue to be held by the Islamists, with 34 reportedly already dead.

Germany's new Foreign Minister, Wadephul, is scheduled to meet with his counterpart, Gideon Saar, and Prime Minister Netanyahu during his visit to Israel on Sunday. Wadephul also plans to visit the Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem.

  • Legal Violations: The mistreatment and kidnapping of hostages by Hamas are in violation of the law of armed conflict (LOAC) and are classified as war crimes.
  • Public Spectacles: Hamas's use of public spectacles to release hostages and returned remains has been criticized as a breach of international law.
