In the hinterland of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), is conducting an aggressive operation against terrorists, Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. This operation, named Operation Akhal, began on Friday, August 1, 2025, following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the dense Akhal forest area of Kulgam district.

The operation started with a cordon and search operation (CASO), aimed at neutralizing terrorists believed to be hiding in the region. However, the operation turned into an intense gunfight when the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. The forces responded with calibrated firing and tightened the cordon to trap the terrorists.

As of August 2, two terrorists have been confirmed killed in the encounter. The engagement has been intense and intermittent throughout the nights, with security forces maintaining contact and gradually tightening the noose on the remaining terrorists, estimated to be around 3-4 militants trapped inside the cordon area. Additional troops and aerial surveillance assets were deployed to intensify the operation.

The operation code named 'Operation Mahadev' took place in the foot of Mahadev mountain peak, not far from Srinagar. Another significant operation, Operation 'Operation Mahadev', occurred on July 28, in the higher reaches of Dachigam national park in Harwan area of Srinagar, resulting in the elimination of three hardcore Pakistani terrorists, including LeT commander Suleman Shah, Abu Hamza, and Jibran Bhai, who were responsible for the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives.

Despite the ongoing operation in Kulgam district, no information has been released regarding any connection between the operation and Pakistan, or any statement made by Amit Shah regarding Chidambaram, or proof linking the Pahalgam attackers to Pakistan. The Indian Army remains on maximum alert, guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The security forces are also focusing on dismantling the ecosystem of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, not just eliminating gun-wielding terrorists. This includes targeting drug smugglers and drug peddlers, as they are believed to be funding terrorism in the region. The operation against terrorists in J&K is Intelligence-backed and coordinated, ensuring that the forces are always acting on the most up-to-date and accurate information.

The identity and other details of the slain terrorist will be ascertained after the operation is concluded. The operation continues into its third day, with security forces resuming anti-terror activities in the Akhal area as they work to clear the dense forest terrain and eliminate the militants. The people of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation as a whole remain hopeful for a peaceful and secure future.
