Terror suspects linked to the Pahalgam incident since deceased in Operation Mahadev, verifies Amit Shah
In a significant development, Operation Mahadev, a joint operation by the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, has concluded successfully on July 28, 2025, with the elimination of the three terrorists responsible for the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22, 2025.
The operation, which began on May 22, 2025, was initiated following intelligence that pointed towards the presence of terrorists in the Dachigam area near Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the course of two months, the operation involved meticulous intelligence gathering, sustained surveillance, and joint coordination among multiple security forces.
On July 28, the final encounter took place in Lidwas (Dachigam), where three terrorists—Suleiman (alias Faizal), Afghan, and Jibran—were neutralised. All three were identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives directly linked to the Pahalgam attack.
Forensic confirmation later matched weapons and bullet casings recovered from the encounter to those used in the Pahalgam attack with 99% certainty. Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally supervised the forensic verification and informed Parliament of the successful elimination of the attackers.
BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda confirmed that at least one of the terrorists eliminated during Operation Mahadev was involved in the Pahalgam terror attack. The Pahalgam attack mastermind is also believed to have been killed in a Kashmir gunfight.
The Pahalgam attack, which occurred in the Baisaran Valley, claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a debate on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack, condemned the barbaric act and expressed his sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones.
