Terror Prevention Exercise Currently Being Implemented in Delhi

In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, comprehensive anti-terror preparedness exercises are currently being conducted in several districts across the country, including the national capital. The two-day drills, led by the Central Industrial Security Force and involving multiple agencies such as the Delhi Police, aim to enhance readiness and security response at key locations.

The exercises, which began on the night of June 27-28, between 1:05 AM and 4:25 AM, are designed to test the readiness and coordination of various security agencies. They involve simulated terrorist scenarios, such as grenade attacks at crowded transportation hubs like the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Kashmere Gate, Delhi, and other locations of mass gathering and critical infrastructure.

In addition to Delhi, the drills are being held across locations in various cities, not just the national capital. Places like Hanuman Mandir in Yamuna Bazar, AIIMS hospital, Venkateshwar International School, Vegas Mall in Dwarka, and a mall in Vasant Kunj are among the locations in Delhi where these exercises are taking place.

The drills are part of a broader anti-terror strategy that also includes intensified night operations, deployment of additional security personnel, and multi-tiered measures like anti-drone strategies in sensitive areas like Jammu and Kashmir. The purpose of these exercises is to validate standard operating procedures and response mechanisms, ensuring a swift and coordinated response in the event of an actual emergency.

Authorities have encouraged the public to cooperate with them during the exercise and have advised not to panic due to increased security presence. It is worth noting that unlike the earlier exercise, the public was not specifically advised about this drill.

Mock drills form a significant part of these exercises, with one recent example being a large-scale mock drill at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station last month, simulating various crisis scenarios. These drills are crucial for enhancing the city's security and are believed to be essential in preparing response forces for various threat scenarios.

The drills focus on responding to potential terror threats, with the aim of sharpening coordination, improving response time, and ensuring public safety during actual emergencies. These exercises exceed the 10 locations mentioned in the earlier exercise and are ongoing, forming a vital part of the nation's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of its citizens.

  1. Given the ongoing comprehensive anti-terror preparedness exercises across the country, it's essential to remember that sports events are also potential targets for terror threats.
  2. Simulated situations, like attempted bombings at sports stadiums, are being explored during these drills to ensure a swift and coordinated response when protecting key public gatherings such as sports events.
