Terrible revelations about a former Florida residence, dubbed a 'house of horrors', where guardians allegedly confined their children in cages.
In a shocking turn of events, the Griffeth family, including Bryan and Jill Griffeth and two relatives, were arrested in Florida on allegations of severely abusing and caging foster children in their care.
The investigation, which began after a mandatory reporter at a church raised concerns, revealed that the children were subjected to horrific punishments, including being locked in makeshift plywood “cages” and sprayed with vinegar. Four of the nine children, ages 7 to 16, who were adopted, were reportedly discriminated against compared to the biological children.
The alleged abuse included caging the children in their bunk beds and forcing them to endure physical punishment. Multiple children recalled being caged into their beds at night and were often not allowed out to go to the bathroom. The seven and nine-year-old kids told police that their parents justified the cage to prevent them from stealing.
Brian Griffeth was accused of using a green drill to confine the children inside their bed frames. Jill Griffeth was accused of beating and starving multiple children in her care. Dallin Griffeth, 21, was also accused of abusive behavior, and a former foster child living in the home accused him of sexual assault.
The arrest report indicated that during DCF's visit, Jill had to correct the children's answers or look up their personal information on her phone, suggesting that the children were illiterate and didn't know basic information like their birthdates.
When questioned about a taser one child had at church camp, Brian told authorities that it was a toy, which was later proven incorrect. Another child told police that he was sprayed with vinegar as punishment for stealing his mother's phone to play games.
A third individual living in the home was also arrested, but the charges against her were dropped.
Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the abuse allegations and discrimination claims, and protective custody remains in place for the children. As of late July 2025, the Griffeths and two relatives face serious child abuse charges, with legal proceedings underway but no finalized trial or sentencing reported yet.
