In a move that could further escalate the ongoing conflict, Israel's army chief Eyal Zamir has reportedly advised political leaders to temporarily halt land-based aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip from Jordan. This decision comes amidst a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with over 450,000 Palestinian residents having fled Gaza City due to the ground offensive, according to the Israeli army.

The crisis deepened as the United Nations failed to pass a resolution aimed at expressing deep concern about the situation in Gaza and urging the Israeli government to lift all restrictions on humanitarian aid. The resolution was vetoed by the United States in the UN Security Council, making the USA the only country to do so. French President Emmanuel Macron has warned of Israel damaging its reputation due to its military actions and the many civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip.

The conflict took a deadly turn when four Israeli soldiers were killed in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, on Thursday by an explosive device. The same day, dozens of Palestinians were killed, with 38 deaths reported in Gaza City alone. Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza, has threatened that Gaza City will be a graveyard for Israeli soldiers and has claimed to have distributed hostages abducted from Israel across several neighborhoods of the city.

Israel launched the ground offensive in Gaza City, aiming to dismantle one of the last strongholds of Hamas and secure the release of these hostages. Since the start of the ground offensive, more than 1,200 targets have been attacked in Gaza City, according to the Israeli army.

The violence spilled over to Jordan as well, with a Jordanian attacker stabbing victims in a truck carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Security forces 'neutralized' the attacker, which usually means the man was killed. Jordan has initiated investigations into the incident.

Amidst the chaos, there is some hope for resolution. Macron has announced his official recognition of a Palestinian state by France at the UN General Assembly next week. He has been putting pressure on Israel to end the war for some time now.

As the situation in Gaza continues to unfold, the international community watches with bated breath, hoping for a peaceful resolution to this long-standing conflict.
