Tension Escalates Between India and China over Land Dispute in Arunachal Pradesh: Key Details on the Altercation
The Indian Congress has launched a full-scale attack on the government, with party chairman asserting that the Modi administration should be transparent about Chinese transgressions and construction near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since April 2020. This call comes amidst growing concerns about the border issue between India and China, a matter that has strained relations between the two nations.
The clash between Indian and Chinese forces on December 9 resulted in injuries to a large number of labor forces on both sides, but no fatalities were reported. Ties between the two countries nosedived following a fierce clash at Galwan Valley in Ladakh in 2020, which left 20 Indian soldiers dead.
Opposition parties, including the Congress, the RJD, and AIMIM, have demanded a thorough discussion on the India-China border issue. However, the government has been evasive, refusing to engage in such discussions. The Congress MP, Shaktisinh Gohil, and AIMIM principal Asaduddin Owaisi, have accused the government of downplaying the China issue and suggested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hesitant to address it.
The Chinese Defense Minister, Wei Fenghe, has been involved in recent weeks' negotiations with India over the border situation between China and India. China's foreign ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, has stated that the China-India border situation is stable and the two sides are maintaining dialogue on the border issue through political and military channels.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has stated that the Indian forces averted the Chinese from making a land grab in Arunachal Pradesh and forced the Chinese to return to their posts. However, China has acknowledged that five Chinese military officers and soldiers were killed, but it is widely believed that the death count was higher.
Amidst these tensions, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation proceeding was listed for discussion. The Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with service and political leadership ahead of a meeting, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and elderly ministers to discuss the centre's response in Parliament.
However, Rajnath Singh's statement in Congress did not silence the opposition parties, who walked out in protest. The Home Minister, Amit Shah, is accused by the Congress of disregarding a proceeding concerning the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
As the standoff continues, both nations remain locked in a stalemate, with no clear resolution in sight. The Congress's call for transparency and a thorough discussion on the border issue remains unanswered, leaving the future of India-China relations uncertain.
