Hawaii Hilo Tennis Teams Achieve ITA All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete Honours

The University of Hawaii at Hilo's men's and women's tennis teams have been recognised for their academic excellence, earning ITA All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete distinctions for the 2024-25 school year.

Eight student-athletes from the Hawaii Hilo tennis programme were among the 1,282 total who earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition. This prestigious award is given to student-athletes who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year, and are listed on the institutional eligibility form.

The men's tennis team, led by seniors Agustin Gentile, Coby Pearce, and Yu Jhe Du, all of whom earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, achieved a team grade point average of at least 3.20. The women's tennis team, boosted by sophomore Mila Srebro and seniors Akari Ichikawa, who also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, also met the criteria for the ITA All-Academic Team recognition.

Iori Furuhata, a freshman on the men's team, and Cami Oyama, a senior on the women's team, were also among those who earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition. Hailing from Italy and Imola, respectively, Filippo Di Perna and Oyama further demonstrated the global diversity of the Hawaii Hilo tennis programme.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the Hawaii Hilo men's and women's tennis teams as ITA All-Academic Teams, recognising their commitment to both athletic and academic success. In Division II, 76 men's and 104 women's programs earned ITA All-Academic Team distinctions.

These achievements highlight the University of Hawaii at Hilo's commitment to fostering a well-rounded student-athlete experience, where academic success is equally valued alongside athletic prowess. The Hawaii Hilo tennis teams have set a high standard for academic achievement and athletic excellence, inspiring future generations of student-athletes to strive for similar success.
