Tennis star Sabalenka triumphs over Raducanu in thrilling third-round battle at Cincinnati tournament
Taylor Fritz Advances in Cincinnati Open, Sabalenka Maintains Dominance Over Raducanu
In the ongoing Cincinnati Open, American tennis player Taylor Fritz secured a straight-sets win over Lorenzo Sonego, despite a one-hour delay caused by a power outage. Fritz did not face a single break point in the match and capitalized on his lone break opportunity before serving out the victory.
Meanwhile, top seed Aryna Sabalenka is defending her title at the tournament and has maintained her perfect head-to-head record (3-0) against Emma Raducanu. In a three-hour match, Sabalenka emerged victorious with a score of 7-6(3) 4-6 7-6(5). The match featured a 13-deuce game in the third set and saw Raducanu outscoring Sabalenka in total points won, 125-123, despite the defeat.
Sabalenka's strength in crucial moments, particularly in tiebreakers, was evident in this match. She has won 18 out of 19 tiebreaks this year, a record that contributed to her victory. Sabalenka commented that she is happy to see Raducanu improving and playing well.
In the next round of the Cincinnati Open, Sabalenka will face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, while Raducanu's next opponent is yet to be determined. Elsewhere, Madison Keys booked her place in the last 16 with a 6-4 6-0 win over Aoi Ito. Keys lost her way a bit in the first set but regained momentum in the second set, winning it in just 20 minutes.
Anna Kalinskaya also advanced, defeating Amanda Anisimova. This marks Kalinskaya's third win against a Top 10 opponent this season, a testament to her impressive form. Ekaterina Alexandrova will face Kalinskaya in the next round.
The US Open at Flushing Meadows is coming up this month, where Raducanu triumphed in 2021. Sabalenka's continued dominance and resilience in tight matches reaffirm her position as a top contender for the title, but Raducanu’s improving performance suggests she could push future encounters closer, especially on hard courts where both players excel.
