Novak Djokovic's Tricky Tennis Trials: Splits with Doubles Partner Andy Murray

Tennis star Novak Djokovic ends relationship with previous rival

Let the cat out of the bag, bud! 'Cause Djokovic ain't got his usual ace up his sleeve anymore - he's parted ways with Andy Murray, his erstwhile doubles partner. Split just before the French Open, the legendary Serbian tennis player finds himself going solo again.

In the beginning of the year, Djokovic, the Grand Slam champ, gushed about Murray: "His general and tennis IQ are through the roof," he said, expecting Murray to dish up the vital game plan for his 25th major trophy nab. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Just a half year and four tournaments in, their partnership's over, but on friendly terms. No grand achievements together, just a mutual agreement.

"Thanks for the blood, sweat, laughs, and support, Coach Andy," Djokovic, about to hit 38 and not quite in the prime of his games, wrote on Instagram, preparing for the French Open in Paris (25th-31st May) with his bro Marko as his wingman.

Can Djokovic Keep Up with the Pack?

Djokovic's season's been a letdown, and he's eager to change that in one of the final Grand Slam events: Roland Garros, Wimbledon, or NYC, to surpass Margaret Court's record of 24 titles at major tourneys. But after his recent performances, it's unclear whether he's still a threat to the next gen tennis sensations like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic couldn't cut it in Masters' opening matches - even on the clay courts of Monte Carlo and Madrid. He backed out of Rome, where the elite's warming up for Paris. Instead, he'll make his mark in Geneva next week with a wildcard, preview to the highlight of the clay-court season. Murray's moved on too, "Thanks to Novak for offering the fab opportunity, and to his team for the grind alongside me," he posted on his Instagram. He's retirement-bound in 2024 and wishing Djokovic luck for the remaining season.

Djokovic and Murray announced their partnership at the tail-end of 2024, when Djokovic had called it quits with his long-term successful coach and former Wimbledon winner, Goran Ivanisevic. Murray hung up his racket after the Paris Olympics, where Djokovic made a gold medal run.

Her's the gist, mate: Djokovic ain't got Murray guiding him no more, and it's unclear if he's got what it takes to challenge the upcoming tennis talents. Still, he's ready to give it another go!
