Tennis Star Carlos Alcaraz Epitomizes Remarkable Sportsmanship During Journey to French Open's Quarterfinals
Catching a Glimpse of True Sportsmanship from Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open
Babe, lemme tell ya, some moves on the court are so epic, they make even the most hardened sports fan toss their cap in admiration. And that, mates, is exactly what Carlos Alcaraz dished out during today's action at Roland Garros.
The Spanish lad went head-to-head with Ben Shelton from the States, in a fourth round duel that was a sight for sore eyes. Their second set exchange, a seven-shot rally for the ages, left everyone's jaw on the floor. But what took the cake was an off-the-chart play from Alcaraz, the kind you can't help but marvel at, even if you ain't his biggest fan.
As the two battled it out, Alcaraz delivered a beauty of a shot that left Shelton scratching his head. But hey, anticipation is a killer, and as the ump was about to give the point to the Spaniard, Alcaraz stepped in. Yep, just as the point was about to be his, he admitted that his racket never even made contact. That meant the point went to Shelton.
Now, sportsmanship is a rare beast these days, so it's refreshing as hell to see an athlete of Alcaraz's caliber set the bar high in one of the biggest tournaments of his sport.
I ain't the biggest Caracas fan, but I've got a soft spot for Novak Djokovic - the man, the myth, the legend - so I'll be hollerin' loud whenever he's on the court. But I digress.
Hell, he could've easily played dumb, taken the point, and moved on. But Alcaraz, in his infinite wisdom, made sure the point rightfully went to Shelton.
And the best part? The man took home the victory, winning in four sets, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Considering his sportsmanship, I hope the Spaniard goes far in this tournament.
But if he ever lands a spot against Djokovic, well, let's just say I got my roots firmly planted for the Serbian heavyweight.
