Tennis star Alexander Zverev is spending his valuable time on making baseless justifications.

Alexander Zverev, Germany's top tennis player, kicks off the season with dreams of a maiden Grand Slam win. Yet, disappointments keep piling up. Once more, he finds himself spewing excuses.

The French Open started promisingly, with Zverev beating Novak Djokovic in the first set, dominating the court. The temperature was a cozy 20 degrees Celsius, and Zverev's serve was threatening. But then things took a turn for the worse. Djokovic, who's not nearly the force he once was, found his footing, and Zverev fell flat. The scoreboard read 6:3, 6:2, 6:4 in Djokovic's favor, and Zverev was left feeling defeated.

According to Zverev, the problem was the cold weather. "My serve wasn't particularly fast," he said, blaming the chill for his poor showing. But former world-class player Barbara Rittner, who works as an expert for Eurosport, isn't buying it. "He can't tell me that," she complained.

Zverev's tactics against Djokovic left much to be desired. He failed to adapt, struggling to find a way to counter Djokovic's tactics, which changed dramatically throughout the match. Djokovic played deep, attacked wisely, and focused more on serve-and-volley. He also employed a whopping 44 drop shots, grinding down Zverev.

"It's just the old game," Rittner remarked. "If I had played against a player who had played the fifth stop, I would have hit him with a shot in the sixth that he would never play another stop again," said Boris Becker, showing his frustration.

Zverev's post-match analysis focused on the conditions, a pattern that's become all too familiar. After his loss to Lorenzo Musetti, he complained about the balls. He overlooked the fact that he couldn't react to Musetti's game and failed to mention that he made just as many unforced errors as his opponent.

At 28, Zverev is part of a generation of talented, successful players, including Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. His dream of winning his first Grand Slam title seems increasingly distant, having lost four finals already.

Experts continue to push for Zverev to shed his passive playstyle and be more aggressive. "You have to make the points," Becker urged. "You have to be the one who acts more aggressively and believes in victory." Coaching changes may be necessary for Zverev to make the necessary adjustments and finally clinch that elusive Grand Slam title.
