"I can't seem to recall a single match we've played," admitted the world No. 3, regarding his perfect record against Nakashima. The young American will challenge Zverev on Friday. "Ah yes, I remember now!" Zverev chuckled, slyly implying his advanced age.

He'll prepare for the match like any other, he said, sporting a mischievous grin, "I know him. Apparently, I've played him three times." He'll study some stats and stick to his game plan.

Kicking off his Stuttgart campaign with a strong startZverev quickly dispatched Frenchman Corentin Moutet in his opening match on Thursday at the Stuttgart grass tournament. After a six-year hiatus, the 28-year-old bearing the top seed is determined to make an impact. A break at the beginning of the match and capitalizing on his serve granted Zverev the first set effortlessly.

However, the left-handed Moutet pushed Zverev to his limits in protracted rallies on the lush turf. Both players seemed discontent with their performance, with Moutet voicing his frustrations during discussions with the referee. In the sweltering heat, Zverev eventually triumphed in under two hours, taking the second set tiebreak 9-7 and securing his first match point for a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) victory.
