After a disappointing exit at the French Open and a spat with Boris Becker, Alexander Zverev failed to secure his first grass title since 2017 when he lost to Taylor Fritz in the Stuttgart ATP final, 3-6, 6-7 (0-7). Zverev, now ranked third in the world, had high expectations but couldn't overcome his nemesis on the court.

The match was halted for over an hour due to rain during the second set, but upon resumption, the tight contest went in Fritz's favor in the tiebreak. The game concluded in just over an hour and a quarter.

Zverev and Fritz lock horns... again! ## An amusing moment at the awards ceremony

Zverev made a humorous comment to Fritz during the post-match ceremony, saying, "I've had enough, stay away from me. Please don't come to Germany for the next two or three years." The banter was a light-hearted response to Fritz's recent string of victories against him. Starting Monday, Fritz, who has handed Zverev five consecutive defeats, will rank fourth in the ATP rankings.

Zverev, who admitted that he's always struggled on the grass, managed to reach the final in Stuttgart for the first time since Halle in 2017. Regardless, he couldn't clinch his 25th professional title during the event.

Despite the setbacks, Zverev is already looking forward to the future. "I want to reach the final at the French Open next year, and if that doesn't happen, I'm happy to be back here in Stuttgart."

Next, Zverev will compete in the tournament in Halle next week. The event, which serves as a warm-up for Wimbledon, will feature world number one Jannik Sinner of Italy.
