One win away from claiming his first grass title, Alexander Zverev is set to square off against his long-time adversary in the final of the ATP tournament in Stuttgart. The world No. 3 pushed through a grueling semi-final match in scorching 35-degree heat to secure his spot against American Taylor Fritz.

Zverev, the top seed, clinched a victory over American Ben Shelton (No. 3) 7:6 (10:8), 7:6 (7:1) in a hard-fought semifinal battle. Fritz, who has given Zverev trouble in recent matches, edged past Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime 6:4, 7:6 to seal his place in the final showdown.

"I’m absolutely thrilled to make it to the final here," Zverev boasted in his on-court interview. "Perhaps I’ll continue this pre-Wimbledon tradition, and hit a few golf balls in Mallorca. I’ve always liked the island, and I think a pool day, instead of the gym, is well-deserved after today’s match."

In this high-stakes encounter, both players displayed a remarkable ability to hold their serve, making the tiebreaks the decisive factor. Zverev missed two set points on serve before ultimately converting the fifth with a powerful service winner. The second set mirrored the first, with Zverev's return game proving crucial. He secured the win with an ace on his third match point after two hours of play.

Reflecting on the tightly contested match, Zverev labeled Shelton as a "troublesome, aggressive opponent who doesn’t let you set a consistent rhythm." However, Zverev has a positive precedent on his side, having bested Shelton on home soil in Munich barely two months ago and securing his only title of the year thus far. Fritz, conversely, has triumphed in their last four matches.

As the prestigious Wimbledon tournament begins on June 30, Zverev is utilizing the tournament in Stuttgart to fine-tune his skills for the highly anticipated event. The 500-series tournament in Halle/Westfalen set to commence on Saturday will serve as beneficial competitive practice for the 28-year-old, who has won 24 titles on tour but remains without a prestigious victory on his least favorite surface, grass.

"I'm not sure who will emerge victorious against Taylor Fritz in the tennis final, as Alexander Zverev and Fritz have been giving each other trouble in recent matches."

"Given their close encounters, it might be wise for Zverev to take his time preparing for the Wimbledon tournament, considering he's not entirely certain about his chances against Fritz, especially on grass courts."
