Iga Swiatek, the reigning champion of the Cincinnati Open, has made a splash in the US Open mixed doubles tournament. Swiatek, known for her prowess in singles, has found a new passion in mixed doubles, as it requires less running compared to singles matches.

Swiatek teamed up with Casper Ruud for the mixed doubles event, which took place from August 19-20, 2025. The duo reached the final, but unfortunately, they were defeated by Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 10-6, finishing as runners-up.

The US Open mixed doubles tournament featured many top singles players, and Swiatek and Ruud progressed through the rounds. Their journey included a first-round victory against Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe, as well as a quarterfinal win against Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti.

Despite playing with very little sleep, having landed in New York around 1:30 a.m. after her Cincinnati Open final win, Swiatek gave a strong performance in the mixed doubles tournament. Ruud, initially concerned about Swiatek's participation due to her advancement in the Cincinnati Open, later apologized for expressing his worries.

After the mixed doubles final, Swiatek resumed her singles campaign at the US Open on August 26, where she won her first-round match comfortably, showing strong form after a nearly week-long break from match play due to the mixed doubles final loss.

In summary, Swiatek reached the final of the US Open mixed doubles tournament with Ruud, but they ultimately came up short. Swiatek's mixed doubles run was notable for reaching the final quickly in the innovative two-day format but did not result in a title. The winning pair of the mixed doubles tournament will receive a prize pot of $1 million.

Swiatek's focus now shifts back to the singles tournament, where she is currently in the second round, aiming to defend her US Open title.
