Tennis Player Aryna Sabalenka confesses about her thoughts following her match with Emma Raducanu at the Cincinnati Open
Emma Raducanu's Journey Continues Amid Challenges
Emma Raducanu's career is on an upward trajectory, despite some setbacks, as she navigates her best season in years. Currently ranked WTA World No. 34, Raducanu has a singles record of approximately 23-16 for the year and a career total of 142-78.
Recently, Raducanu hired Francisco Riog, a former coach of Rafael Nadal, as her new head coach. The partnership marks her eighth coaching partnership, aiming to improve the quality of her shots and overall game against top players.
At the Cincinnati Open, Raducanu faced Aryna Sabalenka, who emerged victorious with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. The match was intense, with Raducanu expressing her pride in her performance on a hard court, despite believing that grass suits her better.
During the match, Raducanu asked an umpire to remove a crying child from the crowd, demonstrating her focus and professionalism. However, she was handed a warning for leaving her post to talk with her coach, who was not allowed to leave his position during the match.
Raducanu was not aware that her loss in Cincinnati would mean she would not be seeded for the US Open, which is scheduled to begin on August 24, 2022. Only the top 32 players are seeded at the US Open singles tournament.
Since Wimbledon, Raducanu's performances under the new coaching partnership have been encouraging, including two third-round appearances in recent Masters 1000 events. Despite battling nagging injuries, the partnership is viewed as promising with praised improvements in her game.
Sabalenka, the winner of the Cincinnati Open, had to change her playing style to win against Raducanu. She used "crazy shots" at crucial moments to put pressure on Raducanu and manage the momentum. After the match, Sabalenka expressed her happiness to see Raducanu healthy and improving.
Raducanu and Sabalenka have previously played each other, with the same outcome at Wimbledon. Sabalenka acknowledged Raducanu as the world No. 1, praising her performance. Sabalenka expects Raducanu to take a day off after their intense match.
Raducanu's journey since winning the US Open in 2021 has been marked by injuries and coaching changes. Despite these challenges, she remains focused on improving her game and aims to be seeded at the 2026 Australian Open.
