Tennis Match Interrupted: Opponent Forced to Withdraw After 49 Minutes (Zverev)

Tennis ace Alexander Zverev sailed into the quarterfinals of the French Open 2025, with his opponent Tallon Griekspoor retiring after just 49 minutes. Zverev now prepares for a potential showdown against Novak Djokovic, who defeated Cameron Norrie in their last-16 clash.

Initially, Zverev stumbled on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, losing his first service game. The German's performance was shaky, and he found himself down 0-3. But his focus soon returned, and he swiftly overcame the setback. Griekspoor, who Zverev had previously beaten in the fifth-set tiebreak at Roland Garros in 2024, appeared injured and frequently touched his abdominal muscles during breaks. A prominent bandage was visible during the changeover.

Tennis legend Boris Becker, an expert on Eurosport, expressed sympathy for Griekspoor, stating, "It's a very difficult injury because you need your abdominal muscles for every shot. I hope he recovers soon." Within 40 minutes, Zverev took the first set, and Griekspoor was unable to continue, resulting in Zverev's quick advancement.

Becker shrugged off Zverev's early encounter, commenting, "He wasn't tested today, so he now has a longer afternoon." In his previous four matches at Roland Garros, Zverev has lost only one set during the 2025 tournament, cementing his status as a formidable competitor in the men's draw.
