Tennis legend of France concludes career in style

Ranked second globally, Coco Gauff has stomped out Lois Boisson's dream run and secured a place in the French Open final for the second time post-2024. On Thursday, the seasoned 21-year-old American overcame her one-year-younger French foe 6:1, 6:2.
In the Saturday finale, Gauff meets world number one Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian champ vanquished defending champion Iga Swiatek from Poland 7:6 (7:1), 4:6, 6:0, snapping Swiatek's astonishing four-year winning streak at Stade Roland Garros. The Polish tennis star had been reigning as champion in the French capital for the past three years and had achieved a 26-match win streak. For Sabalenka, this represents her inaugural Stade Roland Garros final appearance.
Gauff Sweeps Away In 69 Minutes
Boisson, the underdog of the tournament with a rank of 361, had taken the tennis world by storm. The first Frenchwoman in 14 years to reach the semis since Marion Bartoli, she eliminated formidable opponents like world number three Jessica Pegula and Russian Mirra Andrejewa along the way.
Against Gauff, fatigue from the previous rounds was undeniably evident in Boisson's play. A soft performance not echoing the power and liberated spirit she displayed in earlier rounds could not withstand Gauff's ferocity. Still, the audience honored Boisson's effort with applause post-match. Gauff reigned from the onset, winning in just 69 minutes.
"I can tell you wished she'd come out on top, darling," Gauff smiled. "Every time they shouted her name, I whispered mine," the victor shared following her quick triumph.
Cliffhanger - Sabalenka vs Swiatek
Sabalenka fought tooth and nail to advance. In an epic battle, the top-ranked Sabalenka and defending champion Swiatek battled it out for a nerve-wracking two hours. Sabalenka seized control early, only for Swiatek to strike back fiercely. The Polish star eventually claimed the first set in the tiebreak. Swiatek managed to pull level in the second set. However, Sabalenka suddenly found an extra gear, executing an impeccable third set.
"It feels phenomenal! But I still have one match more to conquer," Sabalenka beamed, having won three Grand Slam crowns.
