Coco Gauff Conquers Boisson, Sets Sights on Sabalenka in French Open Final
Tennis Legend from France Bows Out With an Impressive Finale
Hop on a rollercoaster ride of tennis as Coco Gauff, the world's no.2, finishes the French tennis fairy tale of Lois Boisson and secures a spot in the French Open final for the second time after 2022. With Boisson's defeat, a 6:1, 6:2 rout, Gauff will face world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday's final.
Sabalenka clinched her ticket to the grand finale by besting defending champion Iga Swiatek in an exhilarating three-set battle, 7:6 (7:1), 4:6, 6:0. Swiatek's impressive winning streak at Stade Roland Garros was put to an end, a streak that spanned 26 matches and three consecutive titles. This will be Sabalenka's first final appearance at Stade Roland Garros.
Quick Victory for Gauff
Boisson had made heads turn at the French Open as the world number 361, the first Frenchwoman since Marion Bartoli 14 years ago to reach the semi-finals, and with eliminations of top players like Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andrejewa under her belt. However, against Coco Gauff, Boisson's fatigue from the earlier rounds was glaringly evident, as she struggled to match the American's power from the start. A mere 69 minutes later, Gauff claimed the victory.
"I know you all would have preferred her to win," Gauff said with a grin. "Every time you called her name, I whispered mine to myself," the American humorously admitted post-match.
Tense Battle Between Sabalenka and Swiatek
Sabalenka fought tooth and nail to secure her spot in the final. The world no.1 Swiatek matched Sabalenka's intensity for nearly two hours. Sabalenka started powerfully, only for Swiatek to level the score, before Sabalenka stole the first set in a fierce tiebreak. In the second set, Swiatek returned the favor, only for Sabalenka to once again up her game and win the decisive third set.
"It feels amazing! But the job's not done yet. I still have one more match to win," Sabalenka declared, reveling in the achievement but aware that the ultimate victory still lay ahead. Sabalenka has already taken home three Grand Slam titles.

Historical Rivalry
Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka have been fierce competitors on the tennis court, with a 5-5 head-to-head record. Gauff captured her first Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open, coming back from a set down to defeat Sabalenka in the final. Sabalenka currently holds the world's top ranking, having won 40 main-draw matches and three titles in 2025.
In the ongoing French Open, Coco Gauff's swift victory against Lois Boisson sets her up for a tense titled clash with Aryna Sabalenka, a rematch of their historical rivalry in tennis. Sabalenka, already a three-time Grand Slam champion, has been relentless this year, possessing a 40-10 win-loss record in main-draw matches, including three titles.
