The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has shuffled things up in the rankings after the Madrid tournament, as dished by Liter.kz, taking a page from Sports.kz. Here's the dish on how the top players fared:
Belarusian powerhouse Aryna Sabalenka hung onto her numero uno spot, having pocketed the Madrid laurels by outplaying Coco Gauff in the final. Polish tennis sensation Iga Świątek scrambled up to second place. The young gun Coco Gauff, a Madrid runner-up, boasted her way into third spot.
Elena Rybakina, a Kazakhstan native, slid down to the 12th position following a third-round loss to Elina Svitolina in Madrid. Svitolina, hailing from Ukraine, cashed in on the opportunity and climbed three spots to the 14th position.
In the Kazakhstan camp, Yulia Putintseva took a nosedive to 29th position.
Over in the doubles arena, the top threesome consists of Czech player Kateřina Siniaková, American Taylor Townsend, and New Zealand's Erin Routliffe.
Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan managed to hold onto her 17th position. Putintseva, however, dropped to 77th spot. Zhibek Kulambayeva saw a 17-spot plummet to land at the 123rd spot.
