German Tennis Player Daniel Altmaier Advances to French Open Third Round

26-year-old Daniel Altmaier has become the first German tennis player to reach the third round of the French Open this year. The tennis pro scored a win against Czech player Vit Kopriva in a close match, 6:2, 4:6, 6:3, 7:5, after 3 hours and 32 minutes of play.

In his second match in Paris, Altmaier displayed the same form that helped him eliminate the fourth-ranked Taylor Fritz of the United States in his opening game. The German will next face 21-year-old Serbian Hamad Medjedovic on Friday.

Born in Novi Pazar, Serbia, Medjedovic has been rapidly rising in the tennis world. He started playing tennis at an early age and moved to Belgrade around the age of 10 to access better training facilities. Medjedovic turned professional in 2021 and has since won multiple ATP Challenger Tour titles.

Notable victories for Medjedovic include beating former world number three Dominic Thiem and qualifying for both the French Open and Wimbledon in 2023. The young Serbian is currently ranked 61st in the ATP world rankings.

The German tennis contingent at the French Open has seen its share of early exits. Eva Lys, the last German player in the tournament, was defeated by Canadian qualifier Victoria Mboko in the second round.

Meanwhile, world number three Alexander Zverev has an opportunity to join Altmaier in the third round. Zverev will take on Dutchman Jesper de Jong on Thursday, with their match scheduled for 11:00 am (CET) on Eurosport.

Daniel Altmaier's victory over Vit Kopriva marks his continued success in sports, as he now focuses on the tennis match against Hamad Medjedovic in the third round. Hamad Medjedovic, a rising Serbian tennis player, has previously defeated famous opponents, such as Dominic Thiem, and holds a 61st rank in the ATP world rankings.
