Ten must-see occurrences during Jewish Cultural Days Berlin 2024

The 10-day Jüdische Kulturtage festival is set to return to Berlin from September 12th to September 22nd, promising a rich lineup of music, theater, talks, exhibitions, and film events celebrating Jewish culture and heritage. This year's theme is "Light" - Hebrew "ורֹא", pronounced "Or".

The festival will kick off with Israeli singer Shiri Maimon performing with The Berlin Symphony Orchestra on September 12th. Shiri Maimon, known for placing fourth in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest and releasing four albums between 2005-2012, is sure to deliver an unforgettable opening night.

Israeli street artist Benzi Brofman will also be creating large-scale artwork during Shiri Maimon's performance. Brofman's piece will remain in the courtyard of the Rykestraße Synagogue, adding a vibrant and contemporary touch to the festival.

For those interested in learning calligraphy, Micha Mark Farnadi-Jerusálmi will teach a workshop at Bebelplatz on Thursday Sept 19. The workshop is open to both children (ages 10+) and adults.

The literature tent at Bebelplatz will host a reading by bestselling author David Walliams on Friday Sept 20. Admission is free for children, young people, and their companions, making it a great family-friendly event.

The Days of Jewish Culture will conclude with a closing ceremony at Bebelplatz on Sunday Sept 22, which will include the completion of a new Torah scroll, live music, dance, and a unity procession.

Music lovers won't want to miss the performances by Jane Bordeaux, an Israeli indie-folk band, on Saturday Sept 21 at Synagoge Ryckestraße. The Jane Bordeaux show is a teaser for their new album Magic, set to release later this year.

Stand-up comedy fans will be entertained by Elon Gold, who first broke onto the comedy scene at 17. Gold assures audiences that his comedy is lighthearted and does not do dark or dark comedy. Elon Gold will perform on September 17th at Synagoge Rykestraße.

For those interested in film, the movie premiere of The Monkey House will take place on September 16th at Kulturbrauerei. The movie is a Hebrew film with English subtitles about a 10-year-old boy named Adam who meets a mythical creature named Abulele.

The family-friendly movie Abulele will be screened at Kino in der Kulturbrauerei on September 18th.

To get the most accurate and detailed information about the unmissable acts for the 2025 festival in September, I recommend checking the official Jüdische Kulturtage Berlin website or their official social media channels closer to the event dates for the confirmed program and highlights.

A graffiti workshop with Benzi Brofman will also take place on September 16th, offering attendees the opportunity to learn from the talented street artist himself.

The tour begins at the New Synagogue Berlin and is open to anyone over the age of 15.
