Temporarily limited access at Volgograd Airport

In recent days, several Russian airports have implemented temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures due to threats posed by drone attacks. The Volgograd International Airport has been particularly affected, with repeated instances of these restrictions to ensure flight safety.

The announcement of these measures was made by Artem Koreniako, a representative of Rosaviatsiya, on his Telegram channel. The temporary restrictions at Volgograd International Airport have caused delays in flights at airports in Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Novokuznetsk, Norilsk, and Tomsk, affecting over 1590 passengers who have accumulated in waiting halls.

The Volgograd Airport's repeated imposition of these restrictions is due to multiple drone attacks detected over the city. Residents have reported explosions and bright flashes in the sky, triggering the suspension of nighttime operations to prevent accidents. The Russian Ministry of Defense has confirmed shooting down dozens of drones attempting attacks across 11 regions, including Volgograd. Similar safety precautions were adopted at other airports like Nizhny Novgorod, Pskov, Kaluga, and Saint Petersburg.

These drone attacks in the Volgograd region have also caused damage to critical infrastructure such as a railway substation, leading to wider transport disruptions beyond aviation. Other airports mentioned (Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Novokuznetsk, Norilsk, Tomsk) have also experienced related security restrictions, though less detailed information is available for each.

The overall pattern indicates that Ukrainian drone operations have been used strategically to disrupt Russian civilian and military logistics, prompting temporary airspace closures and flight cancellations during periods of elevated threat.

In addition, the Governor of Volgograd Oblast, Andrey Bocharov, announced a house evacuation in the Traktorozavodsky District on Oplotnaya Street due to drone debris falling on the roof.

Russian passengers have been informed about the process of claiming compensation for flight delays. These steps are necessary to maintain safety amid ongoing regional hostilities and UAV threats. On August 13, two aircraft were sent to alternate airports during the period of temporary restrictions at Volgograd International Airport.
