Tempestuous Plans Almost Unveiled a Fiery, Crimson Variant of the Hulk

In a recent shift, the highly-anticipated superhero flick, Thunderbolts, has unveiled a fresh twist in its plotline. Known for assembling an unlikely crew of mercenaries as the New Avengers, the movie's creators have spilled the beans about the backstage chatter that shaped this blockbuster.

Eric Pearson, the co-screenwriter and story writer, has shared some post-release insights about Taskmaster's initial role and the surprising absence of Baron Zemo. Yet, it's Wyatt Russell's character, John Walker (U.S. Agent), that's making headlines now. Speaking to the Wrap, Pearson revealed an intriguing plot twist that never made it to the final cut.

Initially, according to Pearson, John Walker was intended to be the antagonist, transforming into the Red Hulk, serving as a Plan B for Valentina, ready to be triggered should the need arise. He elaborated, "Valentina had tricked him into believing he needed constant medication, all along planting a ticking time bomb in him." This revelation was designed to create discord among the team, ultimately serving as another team-building hurdle.

However, this concept never fully materialized, with Pearson admitting that it didn't feel right. The scrapped idea eventually led to introducing a new character, and Pearson proposed Sentry, whom he had grown fond of during his time in the Marvel Writers Program.

Pearson admired the concept of "what if Superman had a version of himself that was as bad as it was good?" This perspective eventually found life in Lewis Pullman's portrayal, offering a dramatic heel turn that mirrors the internal struggles faced by the anti-heroes - a gripping battle between heroic ambition and self-loathing, but without relying on a repeat character.

As Thunderbolts hits theaters, stay tuned for more updates on the Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek universes, and keep an eye on the future of Doctor Who.
