Germany Braces for Intense Heatwave Starting Midweek

Germany is set to experience an intense heatwave from Monday to Thursday, as a high-pressure system named "Julia" pushes hot air from the Sahara Desert into the country.

From Monday, temperatures will gradually rise, with the center of the country reaching 30 degrees Celsius and more. On Tuesday, the rest of the country will see temperatures between 30 and 36 degrees, while the Rhine-Main region, Palatinate, north of Baden-Württemberg, and Upper Rhine valley will experience the highest temperatures, with values reaching up to 38 degrees.

However, the west and southwest regions will bear the brunt of the highest temperatures, with forecasts predicting highs of 38 to 39 degrees Celsius. In some unmonitored locations, temperatures may even peak at 40 degrees Celsius.

The heatwave is expected to begin on Wednesday and continue through Thursday, possibly lasting until Friday. During this period, humid conditions will make it feel like 40 to 42 degrees Celsius in some areas. Sahara dust on Wednesday and Thursday may also cause hazy skies in Germany.

Meteorologist Bertelmann predicts increased complaints about the heat in the middle of the week. The German Weather Service (DWD) advises residents to drink plenty, stay in the shade, avoid physical exertion, and keep apartments cool from Wednesday onwards. They also emphasize the risks, especially for vulnerable populations.

Detailed forecasts for severe weather and the duration of the heatwave are still uncertain, according to the weather service. However, residents in the west and southwest of Germany should prepare for extreme heat with highs near 40°C and elevated humidity midweek, while the rest of the country will also experience significant heat during this period.

The German Weather Service (DWD) has forecasted extreme heat in Germany starting midweek, with temperatures potentially reaching 40°C, especially in the west and southwest regions. The increase in temperatures will be due to an intense heatwave caused by the high-pressure system named "Julia". This heatwave is expected to lead to increased complaints about the weather, as advised by meteorologist Bertelmann.
