Germany is set to experience a significant heatwave from Monday to Thursday, August 18-21, 2025, with temperatures steadily rising and peaking around Tuesday and Wednesday. The highest temperatures are expected in western, central, northern, and southern Germany, reaching 36-39°C on Wednesday, with some areas possibly nearing 40°C.

The heatwave is driven by an extensive Heat Dome over Europe, affecting Germany along with much of western and central Europe. Officials have advised caution regarding heat-related health risks and fire dangers due to extreme drought conditions.

From Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will start very high, with many places seeing highs in the upper 30s Celsius. The heat will continue to build, leading to the heat peak on Wednesday. The Rhine-Main region, Palatinate, and the north of Baden-Württemberg to the Upper Rhine valley will experience the hottest temperatures.

On Tuesday, temperatures in the northernmost parts of Germany will reach 25 to 29 degrees. On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will be between 31 and 38 degrees almost everywhere in Germany. The very hot air will shift to the east of Germany on Thursday.

The heat peak, according to meteorologist Magdalena Bertelmann, will be from Wednesday. Detailed forecasts for severe weather and the duration of the heat wave are still uncertain, and the risk of thunderstorms is expected to increase from Thursday.

As the heatwave approaches, the German Weather Service (DWD) advises citizens to drink plenty, stay in the shade, avoid physical exertion, and try to keep their apartments cool from Wednesday onwards. Ice cream parlours and swimming pools are expected to be busy during the heat peak.

Despite the heat, residents are encouraged to take precautions to stay safe and healthy during the upcoming heatwave. Stay informed, stay cool, and stay safe.
