Hot Weather Sweeps Across Germany

Germany is bracing for a heatwave this week, with temperatures soaring to 31 to 38 degrees almost everywhere, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). The scorching heat is expected to move towards the center of the country starting from Monday.

From Wednesday onwards, the weather across Germany will vary significantly. Northern and western regions, including Niederrhein, Ahlhorn, and Heidelberg, will enjoy warm and mostly sunny conditions, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 30°C during the day and 11°C to 15°C at night. The Upper Rhine, Saar, and Mosel regions, however, will experience the hottest temperatures, with daytime highs predicted to be around 30 degrees or more [1][3].

In contrast, southern Germany, particularly the Munich area, will see cooler temperatures with significant rain and cloud cover midweek. On Wednesday, August 20, Munich is forecast to have a daytime temperature around 21°C and nighttime near 16°C, with a 70% chance of rain and 100% cloud cover, indicating rainy and cloudy conditions [2]. As the week progresses, rain chances in the Munich area will decrease, but some precipitation remains possible.

Heidelberg, just before Wednesday, is forecast to have temperatures around 29°C with very low chances of precipitation on the weekend after and stable conditions [4]. Ahlhorn is expected to have daytime highs around 23°C on Tuesday and similar temperatures over the week, with sun and relatively mild conditions.

Meteorologist Bertelmann predicts that ice cream parlors will have longer lines, swimming pools will be well-attended, and complaints about the heat will increase in the middle of the week. The Rhine-Main region, the Palatinate, northern Baden-Württemberg, and the Upper Rhine Valley will experience the hottest temperatures [5].

It's important to note that detailed forecasts for severe weather and the duration of the heatwave are still uncertain, according to the DWD. Starting from Thursday, the thunderstorm risk is likely to increase. The DWD advises drinking plenty, staying in the shade, avoiding physical exertion, and trying to keep your apartment cool starting from Wednesday.

In the immediate coastal area, temperatures will be below 25 degrees, while the rest of the country will have highs between 26 and 32 degrees in the shade. The weather service expects the heat peak on Wednesday, with the highest values at the Upper Rhine, Saar, and Mosel [1][2][3].

The new week will undoubtedly be hot in Germany. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the sunny weather!
