Television Revolution Comes to a Close
======================================================
After three seasons, the spin-off series of the beloved show "Sex and the City", titled "And Just Like That...", has come to an end. The final two-part episode aired in August 2025, marking the conclusion of the franchise's continuation from HBO Max.
Showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed that Season 3 would be the last, citing it as a "wonderful place to stop" in the story. The season was extended from 10 to 12 episodes to provide a more elaborate finale fitting the style of the series.
The spin-off reunited characters Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, but excluded Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, who left the series. The ending follows mixed reviews and some fan backlash related to the reboot, yet it remains a cultural landmark with dedicated viewership.
The series aired in the USA in 1998 and in Germany in 2001. The final episode of "And Just Like That..." will be released on August 14 (USA) and August 15 (Germany).
The original series, "Sex and the City", became a worldwide sensation around the turn of the millennium. Based on the books of sex columnist Candace Bushnell, it followed the ups and downs in the lives of four friends in their thirties. In "And Just Like That...", the friends are no longer in their thirties but over 50.
Despite the end of the series, fans of "Sex and the City" continue to hope that the series will one day resume. However, as of August 2025, there are no announced plans for any new "Sex and the City" films or further series installments beyond "And Just Like That..." season 3—it conclusively marks the end of the franchise's current story arc.
The series was award-winning and became a cult classic. However, some fans commented that "And Just Like That..." was never as good as "Sex and the City". Others watched it as a "hate-watch", expressing their discontent on social media.
One interesting fact is that the owner of Carrie Bradshaw's house from the original series requested a gate for her staircase from the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission. This request was denied, as the staircase is considered an iconic part of the series.
Millions of fans followed the lives of the four friends, making "Sex and the City" and its spin-off "And Just Like That..." a significant part of pop culture history. As we say goodbye to the series, we can't help but feel a relieved sigh, as The Guardian put it."
