Marcus Werner, a well-known presenter for West German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR), has tragically passed away last week at the age of 51. Werner was a prominent figure in regional television in Ostwestfalen.
Born in Schleswig, Werner spent his childhood and youth in Aurich in East Friesland and in Brühl in Baden before moving to Bielefeld, where he lived before starting his regular appearances as a moderator of "Lokalzeit OWL" in 2009.
For over 15 years, Werner had been presenting "Lokalzeit OWL" from the WDR studio in Bielefeld. His voice and energy are greatly missed, according to Gabi Ludwig, head of WDR's regional programs, who described Werner as a wonderful colleague and friend.
In addition to his work in television, Werner was a successful novelist and non-fiction author. He also wrote a column for "WirtschaftsWoche" about "the everyday trivialities of the economy". Werner had a knack for summing up topics and understanding what moved the audience.
Werner died after a severe illness. The station announced his death on Friday evening. His passing has left a void in the regional television scene, with many paying tribute to his talent and charisma.
Marcus Werner was not only a respected presenter but also a prominent figure in regional elections. He hosted various election shows on WDR television, using his skills to engage and inform the audience.
Werner also appeared in front of the camera for other stations' productions, showcasing his versatility as a presenter. His work will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure of working with him or watching him on television.
