Teen's e-scooter crash leaves woman critically injured in Magnitogorsk

A 62-year-old woman in Magnitogorsk suffered serious injuries after colliding with an electric scooter on 1 April. The incident involved a 15-year-old boy who lost control of the vehicle near building 31 on Karl Marx Street. Authorities have since launched a criminal investigation into the accident. The crash took place in the early evening, when the teenager reportedly failed to maintain control of the e-scooter. The force of the impact left the woman with multiple injuries, requiring immediate medical treatment.

Local police confirmed the case falls under Part 1 of Article 118 of the Russian Criminal Code, which addresses causing serious harm through negligence. While e-scooter accidents have occurred before, this marks the first fatal incident involving such a vehicle in the Chelyabinsk region. Official records on severe e-scooter injuries in Magnitogorsk remain unavailable to the public. Russian municipal health agencies do not routinely publish detailed statistics on this type of accident, leaving gaps in local safety data.

The injured woman continues to receive medical care following the collision. The investigation will determine whether further charges apply to the minor involved. For now, the case highlights ongoing concerns about e-scooter safety in urban areas.
