Children set off fireworks - Car goes up in flames - Teenagers set a parked car ablaze with fireworks in Pforzheim
A car was set on fire in Pforzheim after two 13-year-old children played with fireworks. The pair had been throwing them at parked vehicles before one caught alight. Police are now investigating the incident.
The two children were tampering with fireworks when they targeted parked cars. One of the vehicles ignited, forcing them to run away. A witness quickly intervened, catching one of the boys while the other later returned on his own.
A bystander managed to put out the flames before firefighters arrived. Authorities took both children into custody but released them to their guardians shortly after. Criminal police have since opened an inquiry into the incident.
In a separate case in Hagen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, a 42-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son accidentally set a neighbour’s car ablaze. They had lit children’s fireworks on a Saturday, igniting dry leaves beneath the parked vehicle. The car was completely destroyed, with damages estimated at €30,000.
The Pforzheim incident remains under investigation. The two children involved have been handed over to their families. Meanwhile, the Hagen case highlights the risks of fireworks near flammable materials, with authorities assessing liability for the costly damage.
